Delete Pages

Steps

Have a connected assistant delete a page for you, where an administrator has enabled the delete tools. The deletion is saved as you, so it carries your name (see Agent Authentication).

  1. Ask the assistant to delete the page, by title or by reference. It reads the page first, so what it deletes is the version it has just shown you.
  2. Check what it reports: the page and the version it deleted, that it went to the recycle bin, and, where it had translations, that they went with it.

FAQ

Can I get the page back?

Yes. Deleting moves the page to the wiki's recycle bin, from which an administrator can restore it. On a wiki with no recycle bin, the deletion is refused rather than made permanent.

Which pages does it refuse to delete?

There is no recursive delete: a space home page that still has child pages is refused, so move or delete the children first. A home page whose only remaining child is the space's WebPreferences settings page can be deleted, and the settings page stays. Rights and configuration pages are refused outright: WebPreferences, XWikiPreferences, wiki descriptors and the wiki's MCP configuration page.

Why the assistant says it cannot delete pages?

The delete tools are off by default. Ask your administrator to enable them.
