Steps
Have a connected assistant change a page or create one, where an administrator has enabled the write tools. The assistant saves as you, so the change carries your name (see Agent Authentication).
- Ask the assistant to make a change: "add a paragraph about backups to the getting-started page". It reads the page first, then applies exact find-and-replace edits in XWiki 2.1 syntax, not Markdown, and reports the version it saved.
- Ask it to create a page where you need a new one: "create a new page in Sandbox called weekly-status for the team updates".
- Open the page's history and check the change: it is saved under your own name, and its summary is stamped [AI] so you can tell it apart and compare it with earlier versions.
FAQ
Why does an edit keep failing with "re-read and retry"?
The page was modified since the assistant last read it. Tell the assistant to read it again and try again. This is the conflict protection working as intended.
Why does the assistant say it cannot write or create pages?
Write tools are disabled by default. Ask your administrator to enable them in the wiki's MCP configuration.
Why is the change not in the page history?
Agent edits are saved as minor versions by default, and the history hides minor versions until you ask to see them. Enable the display of minor edits to find the change.
