Steps

Two properties of xwiki.properties, among those Notification Configuration Properties lists, switch off the whole notifications feature and its mail channel alone.

1. Open xwiki.properties, in the WEB-INF directory of the wiki's web application.
2. Set notifications.enabled to false to stop the feature, or back to true to start it again.

   notifications.enabled = false

3. Set notifications.emails.enabled instead to stop only the mail, leaving the notifications menu and the RSS feeds working.

   notifications.emails.enabled = false

4. Restart the servlet container.
5. Open the "Notifications" tab of a user profile and check the result: with the mail off, the settings no longer offer "Email Preferences"; with the whole feature off, the tab itself and the bell in the top bar are gone.

   

FAQ

What happens to the events that occur while notifications are off?

They are still recorded in the event stream, but no notification list is updated for them, so starting the feature again does not deliver them afterwards.

Can I switch notifications off for one wiki only?

No. Both properties are read from xwiki.properties, so they apply to every wiki the instance hosts.

Can I enable or disable the email feature ?

Yes, check the Notification Configuration Properties to see what settings can be modified to configure the wiki's notifications.
