Manage Cross-Wiki Reach
Steps
Grant an MCP endpoint access to other wikis of the farm, or take it away. Reach is granted on the endpoint that does the searching, not on the wikis it reaches: Cross-Wiki Reach explains what it does and does not constrain. You must be a main-wiki administrator to change it.
- Open the main wiki's administration and go to "MCP Server", which shows the "MCP across all wikis" dashboard.
- Check that no row you administer says "configuration not trusted". If one does, click its "Reset" button before changing anything: the reset takes ownership of that wiki's configuration with the default settings. A row whose page stays untrusted keeps "MCP enabled" and "Guest access" read-only, and those changes are skipped on save.
- Set "MCP enabled" and "Guest access" for each wiki you administer.A wiki you do not administer, or whose page is untrusted, shows a read-only status.
- Set "Cross-wiki reach" for each endpoint.
- Save the dashboard. The first save turns the "main wiki only" default into an explicit list, so you can revoke the main wiki's own reach in that same save. Read the result banner: it reports how many changes were applied and how many were skipped (insufficient rights, untrusted configuration or failed write).
- Ask an agent connected to that endpoint to call list_wikis. It lists the current wiki plus every reachable wiki the connected user may view.
FAQ
Can a subwiki administrator grant their own endpoint reach?
No. The reach setting is stored on the main wiki's configuration document, which only main-wiki administrators can edit.
What happens if a wiki's configuration page is not trusted?
Its "MCP enabled" and "Guest access" cells are read-only and the save skips those changes. If it is the main wiki's page, reach is off for every wiki and no reach change is written at all; reset the main wiki's configuration first.
When can I change the main wiki's own reach?
The first save of this dashboard turns the "main wiki only" default into an explicit list, so you can revoke the main wiki's own reach there. Before any save, the main wiki always reaches.
Does a guest get cross-wiki reach?
A guest on a reach-enabled endpoint can read what the guest may view on the other wikis, even where those wikis refuse guest access. Guests never receive write tools.
