Ways to Insert a Macro
Explanation
Every editor inserts a Macro for you: it lists the Macros installed on the wiki, asks you for the parameters, and writes the resulting Macro call into the Page. Which route you take follows from the editor you are editing the Page with.
| Editor | How a Macro is inserted | Procedure |
|---|---|---|
| WYSIWYG editor, the default one, in place or standalone | Through a dialog listing the Macros and their parameters | Insert a Macro with the WYSIWYG Editor |
| BlockNote editor, where an administrator has installed it | Through the same dialog, opened from the slash menu | Insert a Macro with the BlockNote Editor |
| Wiki editor | By typing the Macro call yourself, in the Page syntax | Edit a Page with the Wiki Editor, with the Syntax reference |
The Route Is Not Stored
A Page records the Macro call alone, not the editor that wrote it, so the routes above are interchangeable: a Macro typed by hand in the Wiki editor is displayed as a Macro by the WYSIWYG editor, and one inserted through a dialog is a plain Macro call again in the Wiki editor.
FAQ
Which editor am I using?
Clicking "Edit" opens the default WYSIWYG editor in place, and the dropdown of the "Edit" button lists the other editors available on the Page. The dropdown is available only for advanced users.
Can I type a Macro call without leaving the WYSIWYG editor?
Yes, in its "Source" view, which shows the Page syntax; what you typed is displayed as a Macro again when you leave that view.
