Explanation
XWiki allows you to export wiki content in several ways. You can export a single wiki Page, or multiple Pages, if the Page is a parent Page or an entire Page hierarchy.
By default, XWiki supports exporting content to PDF and HTML. Administrators can also export as XAR files. Additional export formats such as ODT, RTF, and others are also available, depending on the installed extensions and configuration. If the administrator has configured the server to work with an Office Server, either by connecting to an internal Office Server or by connecting to an external Office Server, users will be able to export content in ODT and RTF formats.
Some export types can be triggered directly via URL parameters: customizations for HTML export using URL parameters, customizations for PDF export using URL parameters.
Users can export while viewing a Page, using the available Export actions, and administrators can also export Pages from the administration, where more advanced configuration options are available.

Does importing/exporting XWiki Pages via XAR files replace a proper backup?
No, importing or exporting Pages via XAR files is not a substitute for a proper backup.
