Standalone WYSIWYG Editor
Explanation
The Standalone WYSIWYG editor allows you edit a page's title and content, by navigating to separate Edit UI. It was the default WYSIWYG editor before the in-place editor was introduced and became the new default editor.
The Standalone WYSIWYG editor is used by default (i.e. unless you've configured your user profile to use a text editor), when:
- Creating a Page. Note that this is a limitation.
- Editing a page that has a custom Sheet bound and there are Properties of type "TextArea". In this case the editor used to edit these Properties is the Standalone WYSIWYG Editor.
The Standalone WYSIWYG editor is rarely needed, as the in-place editor is generally preferred for making modifications. However, in one specific case, the Standalone WYSIWYG editor becomes useful: when you need to just edit the content of a Page while a Sheet is applied. This is because the in-place editor allows you to edit the rendered text of a page (with the Sheet applied) but you could want to only edit the content.
Note that Simple users may also use the Standalone WYSIWYG editor when editing a page, if the administrator has disabled in-place editing, in which case the Standalone editor becomes the default WYSIWYG editor.
FAQ
Why was the Standalone WYSIWYG editor replaced as the default editor by the In-place WYSIWYG editor?
The in-place editor lets you edit directly on the Page you’re viewing. It loads faster, keeps the context, and allows you to edit sections without having to scroll through the whole Page.
