Page Templates
Explanation
A Template is an ordinary wiki Page whose content is copied into a new Page when that Page is created from it. It saves you from starting a recurring kind of Page from scratch: the headings, the boilerplate text and the fields are already in place.
A Template does not reach the Creation Wizard on its own. It is offered through a Template provider: a small configuration that points at the Template Page, supplies the entry shown under "Templates" in the Wizard, and restricts the part of the wiki where the Template is offered. That is why the "Templates" group does not hold the same entries everywhere, and why you are only offered the Templates you have the rights to use.
The copy happens once, when the Page is created. The new Page receives the Template's content, its attachments and its structured data, and nothing connects the two afterwards: editing the Template later leaves Pages already created from it untouched, and editing such a Page leaves the Template untouched.
A Template therefore decides only what a new Page starts with: the fields you fill in when editing a Page come from the structured data it carries, which a Template copies along with everything else.
Creating a Template and the provider that offers it is an administration task, described in the administrator topic Page Templates.
