Limitations

Explanation

There are situations where the only viable solution to upgrade the flavor is to upgrade using the export/import method, instead of using the recommended method, to upgrade using the Distribution Wizard. The upgrading method done by export and import should be used only when you clearly know what content was created on the old instance and you can manually verify that nothing important is missing.

Warning

This approach is usually not recommended because it completely bypasses the automatic data migration performed during a normal upgrade. Automatic migration is important because it adapts existing data to new formats and storage models.

By skipping this process, some data may become unreachable or incompatible, for example:

  • file system attachments may be stored using a different directory structure,
  • some properties may change their type (for example from String to List),
  • internal references or technical objects may no longer match the expected format.

As a result, this method should only be used as a last resort, when a standard upgrade or migration is not possible.
