A group gathers the users of a wiki so that a right can be granted to all of them at once, and the [[Administration Application>>doc:extensions:Extension.Administration Application]] is where an administrator manages them. Like a user account, a group is an ordinary Page in the ##XWiki## space, and the list of who belongs to it lives on that Page, as one ##XWiki.XWikiGroups## object per member. | |
||
A member is either a user or another group, called a subgroup. A user joins the [[groups named as initial groups>>doc:documentation.xs.admin.user.set-initial-groups-new-users.WebHome]] as soon as their account is created, and [[sees the groups they belong to>>doc:documentation.xs.user.user.edit-profile.view-groups.WebHome]] from their own profile. | |
||
The groups of the wiki are listed under "Users & Rights" > "Groups" in the [[wiki administration>>doc:documentation.xs.admin.base.content-organization.administer-wiki.WebHome]]: | |
||
{{image reference="groups-list.png" size="large" alt="The Groups administration screen listing the groups of the wiki with their number of members and an Edit and a Delete action each, above the Create group button"/}} | |
||
From that screen an administrator [[creates a group>>doc:documentation.xs.admin.group.create.WebHome]], [[changes who belongs to it>>doc:documentation.xs.admin.group.change-members.WebHome]] and [[deletes it>>doc:documentation.xs.admin.group.delete.WebHome]]. | |
||
[[Granting the Edit right>>doc:documentation.xs.admin.rights.WebHome]] on a group's Page lets someone change its members without being an administrator of the wiki.
