Configure the MCP Server

Steps

Set up this wiki's MCP endpoint and choose what it exposes. Read MCP User Permissions first: everything an agent can reach is bounded by the wiki user it connects as.

  1. Open the wiki's administration and go to "Other > MCP Server".

The wiki administration, with the MCP Server entry of the Other category highlighted in the left navigation and the MCP Server section open beside it

  2. Check that the MCP server is enabled. It is enabled by default; a subwiki has its own toggle, while the main wiki's is controlled from the farm dashboard.
  3. Set the server name advertised to connecting agents. It defaults to the wiki's pretty name.

The Server Name field of the MCP Server administration section, highlighted and filled in with Product Wiki

  4. Set the server description, which is sent to agents as the MCP initialization instructions. A "call man first" hint is appended automatically.
  5. Select the tools this wiki exposes in the tool tree. Every non-write tool is selected by default; see Tool Policies.

  6. Optionally enable write tools, which are all off by default.
  7. Decide whether the endpoint may return rendered content. "Allow Rendered Content" is on by default and lets get_document return HTML-rendered content, which executes the page's macros with the page author's rights, exactly as viewing the page does. Turn it off to restrict agents to raw wiki source.
  8. Save the configuration. The next request rebuilds the server with the new settings, with no restart.
  9. Check from an MCP client that the endpoint reports as connected. With OpenCode, opencode mcp list names the server and the URL it answered on.

FAQ

What endpoint URL do I give to users?

Build it as https://<server>/<context>/rest/wikis/<wiki>/aiLLM/mcp, where <server> is the domain and possibly the port of the installation, <context> is usually empty or xwiki (check whether other URLs carry the prefix) and <wiki> is this wiki's id, xwiki for the main wiki.

Do I need to restart the MCP Server for changes to take effect?

No restart is needed. Saving the configuration invalidates the cached MCP server, and the next request rebuilds it with the new settings; a change on the main wiki refreshes all wikis, a change on a subwiki only that wiki.
