Refactor the Get Started as a User documentation to the Documentation Guide
Review and refactor of documentation.xs.user.get-started and its three child pages against the Documentation Guide. No page is created, moved or deleted — the tree and its navigation order are unchanged.
second-generation-wiki was written entirely as {{velocity}} + {{html}}: a Bootstrap grid, <ul class="features-grid"> lists and FontAwesome icons, styled by $xwiki.ssx.use("Documentation.UserGuide.Features.SecondGenerationWiki.WebHome"). That legacy page is already stripped to a redirect stub, so the new page's whole layout depended on a page the migration is meant to delete. It is rewritten in XWiki syntax, which also drops the #set($docextras=[]) hack and two malformed class="col-sm-6"" attributes. Its two annotated feature inventories were Reference material inside an Explanation, so they become one comparison table and the page keeps the *why*.
wikis-xwiki used {{velocity filter="none"}} + {{html clean="false"}} around the legacy #startfloatingbox() macro, and inserted its image with height="350" — in the documentation space size is mandatory and width/height are forbidden, which only escaped the checker because it sat inside an {{html}} block. Its "What makes XWiki special?" section also re-explained first versus second generation wikis, which is the entire subject of its sibling; that is now one sentence and a link. Fixed "a central hub for information is stored".
home-page's table was broken in two ways: the header row was missing the = on "Page Areas", and the rows under the rowspan="4" cells carried an extra empty placeholder cell, so they emitted five cells into a four-column table and every Edit/Follow/More row was shifted one column right.
Technical IDs were unprefixed, so the extension badge could not resolve; they are now xwiki:-prefixed, and the two pages that had none are associated with the flavor. Note the same unprefixed value is on documentation.xs.admin.get-started and wants a separate sweep.
Links into the old tree are repointed where a new-tree page exists (Rights, Exports, the Developer documentation). Three have no new-tree equivalent yet and deliberately still point at the old one: the Attachments tab, the complete list of features, and Programming features.
Screenshots are re-captured on XWiki 17.10.11 at exactly 960px, the width size="extra" renders at, instead of 968px rescaled by the browser, and on content that no longer shows the leftover testtt-french / en-za locale-test pages. The hub gets the plain Home page as the result step of its procedure; home-page keeps the numbered version, re-done with red 255, 0, 0 boxes over the real elements. xwiki-long-tail.png was the one picture still at its legacy width — 556px displayed at size="large", so the browser upscaled and blurred it. It is redrawn from the original's own geometry at exactly 650px, which also makes its labels crisp again.
The hub's procedure gains a step routing on to "Create your first Page", and its closing step now reads as the result of the procedure rather than as one more instruction: the Home page link moved into the step itself, and the trailing "See Home Page for what each area of it does" sentence — an explanation inside a step — is gone.
One fact, one page. Splitting one subject over a hub and three children leaves each page restating the context the others already give, and every page still reads fine on its own, so the four were compared side by side:
- "navigate, create and manage your content" was both the hub's last step and home-page's opening sentence. The hub keeps it; home-page's intro now introduces its own table.
- wikis-xwiki named the Blog and the Task Manager as ready-made applications, which is exactly what second-generation-wiki's table lists in full, and "without programming" was stated on both pages and answered by second-generation-wiki's FAQ. The claim now lives on wikis-xwiki, the mechanism in that FAQ, and second-generation-wiki's closing sentence drops it.
- second-generation-wiki's opening sentence listed the first generation features that its own table lists one line below.
- wikis-xwiki's "That is why XWiki is used as a website, an intranet, a knowledge base and a learning platform alike" repeated its image caption word for word.
examples-wikis.png illustrates how XWiki is used, not what a wiki is, so it moves out of "What is a wiki?" and into "What makes XWiki special?", where its caption belongs. wikis-xwiki also had an empty FAQ, and now answers the one question neither of its sections does: whether XWiki is free.
Two things found during the review are not in this change request, because each needs its own pass:
- Documentation.UserGuide.GettingStarted is correctly stripped and redirecting, but its 14 attachments were never deleted (including Homepage.PNG *and* Homepage.png, which are two separate attachments).
- The {{image}} macro drops its alt parameter and substitutes the file name whenever size is set — reproduced on all four pages here and, unrelated, on base.page.edit-page. The exact combination the guide mandates in the documentation space is currently the one that produces a page with no alternative text. This wants a JIRA issue against the Documentation application.
